Critical infrastructure needs and priorities in Australasia

What are the most critical infrastructure needs and priorities in your region?

      0:14

In order for priority, Australia's infrastructure needs our energy infrastructure, which is transitioning our energy mix to be more renewable energy focused, with Australia aiming to become a renewable energy superpower and leveraging its abundant resources to produce green energy intensive products domestically, thereby reducing global emissions and increasing export value.

      0:36

For that, we need greater grid reliability.

      0:38

The aging electricity grid faces challenges with potential for rolling blackouts during peak demand periods.

      0:44

Investments are therefore needed to modernize the grid and integrate renewable energy sources to ensure reliable power supply.

      0:52

      Secondly, transportation infrastructure.

      0:54

      We have urban congestion.

      0:56

Major cities experience significant congestion, necessitating investments in public transportation systems and road networks to improve mobility and reduce travel times.

      1:05

      We also require regional connectivity.

      1:07

Enhancing transportation links between urban centers and regional areas is crucial for economic development and access to services.

      1:15

      Thirdly, water security.

      1:18

Sustainable water management requires the development of infrastructure for efficient water storage and distribution, and recycling is essential to address variability and water availability and support agriculture and urban needs.

      1:31

      And finally, housing and development.

      1:33

Affordable housing is a critical issue.

      1:35

Addressing housing shortages, particularly in regional areas, through infrastructure investments is essential to alleviating the housing crisis.

      1:43

New Zealand has very similar priorities as Australia, with energy security, infrastructure resilience, transportation, infrastructure upgrades and affordable housing all top of the government's agenda.
