Inclusion and Diversity: The WTW Commitment

We use our unique perspectives to serve clients, striving for excellence and high performance in all we do.

At WTW, we know that when our individual talents are combined, we unlock our collective potential and create an environment where everyone can be authentic, curious and bold. Building diverse teams helps leverage our best thinking and make better decisions, be more creative and improve our ability to help clients solve complex problems. We’re better together because each of us is different.

We have a full vision at WTW, and that’s to be the best company we can be, and that’s for the benefit of all our stakeholders…And to accomplish this, we need that inclusive culture I’ve talked about, where everyone’s heard, everyone’s respected, everyone’s valued.”

Carl Hess (He/Him) | CEO

Why an inclusive culture is important

At WTW we believe an inclusive culture — where we embrace individual perspectives, experience, insights and ideas — creates a space where our colleagues are empowered to bring their whole selves to work. Providing an inclusive environment where different ideas and perspectives are respected is critical to our ability to transform tomorrows. This makes us stronger. It’s vital to our success as a company.

Our strategy and how we track progress

Making progress in inclusion and diversity (I&D) is not a separate initiative at WTW. It is embedded into everything we do. Every colleague at WTW helps bring our I&D strategy to life.

Our senior leadership team is responsible for our overall talent strategy, which includes I&D strategy. Our global and regional I&D councils — with direction and support from our leadership team — set our I&D priorities. These groups focus on areas that have the greatest impact for our colleagues and align with company priorities.

Increase the overall diversity in our talent and leadership pipeline.

We track progress in terms of I&D in multiple ways:

  1. 01

Our executive leadership team has a shared aspirational I&D goal to increase representation of female and racially diverse talent.

  2. 02

Each geography, segment and function leadership is accountable for working toward a more inclusive and diverse organization.

  3. 03

People managers focus on the effective engagement, development and retention of all colleagues.

  4. 04

All colleagues are encouraged to include supporting inclusion and diversity in their performance objectives.

We work toward furthering inclusion and diversity with the understanding that all hiring, promotion and other employment decisions will be made on an individual basis based solely on merit without regard to protected characteristics.

Diversity

Our commitment to diversity is demonstrated by the composition of our board of directors, which reflects diversity of gender, ethnicity and nationality, backgrounds and skill sets. Based on self-identified characteristics:

40% of our board of directors identify as female

10% of our board of directors identify as LGBT+

10% of our board of directors identify as African American and Black

60% of directors have non-U.S. citizenship

75% of board committee chairs are diverse*

* Diversity is broadly interpreted by the Board to include viewpoints, background, experience, industry knowledge and geography, as well as more traditional characteristics of diversity, such as race and gender.
