Pension index decreased in December
The WTW Pension Index declined in December 2022. This month’s change was a result of negative investment returns, partially offset by a decrease in liabilities due to an increase in discount rates. The end-of-December index level of 101.3 reflects a decrease of 2.0% for the month but an increase of 13.0% for the year.

The index reflects the asset/liability performance of a hypothetical benchmark pension plan, and provides an indicator of capital market effects on pension plan financing. Individual plan results will vary based on such factors as portfolio composition, investment management strategy, liability characteristics and contribution policy.
